Do we still like it here???

Do we still like it here???

In the meantime, we have already progressed a bit  in the new year and here too the winter has started with night temperatures that fluctuate around the freezing point. Fortunately, the sun comes squeaking over the mountains from about eight o’clock and it is nice and warm a little later. Certainly on the wellness zone that is oriented directly to the south and which by a happy twist of fate is completely out of the wind. This often results in a feeling temperature of at or over 20° C. Wonderful naturist weather!

At the beginning of a new year, it seems appropriate to us to take a brief look back at the past year. What do we like about our new life? What not? And, above all: are we still happy to be here??? Read on; in the following paragraphs you’ll find out all about it!

What do we like about our new life? Well, almost everything! The climate here is heavenly and nature is overwhelmingly beautiful and pure. Getting up with a cup of nice coffee in the morning sun and listen to the twittering of the birds that fly off and on. Welcoming new people and helping to make their holiday an unforgettable stay.  Feeling like people arrive as guests and leave as friends. Seeing that guests  also  forge friendships with each other and agree to come back to Finca Soñada together.   Prepare and serve a nice breakfast or dinner.  Provide an acoustic live concert and see that people visibly enjoy it  even if you are far from being a good musician. Little  by little, making our garden even more beautiful than it already is. Discovering and testing the areas where free hiking (in the nude) is possible  –  exciting! And we can go on for a while.

Is there nothing we don’t like? Yes, of course! For example, it is frustrating when people make a reservation during a busy period and don’t show up without warning and no longer respond to your messages.  Is it disappointing when a couple is forced to cancel a 3-week reservation because their health insurance might be obstructive if they get corona during their stay in Spain. It is shocking to find that the Spanish government needs 6 months to answer a simple question. Maddening to hear what you have to do to move correctly from one country to another within the European ‘Union’…

As you can see, we do have some concerns. But, let’s be clear: of course we still like to be here! We feel like we’ve won the lottery and regularly pinch each other’s cheeks. Also because  in 2021  it turned out that our project is viable. The latter is not unimportant. After all, we are still (relatively) young and of course have to provide for our livelihood. The big difference with the past is that we no longer live to work, but now work to live. By the way, we only use the word ‘work’ on Friday evenings when we have our traditional ‘after work drink’. The other days of the week we talk about ‘play’, as in: “I’m going to play around the pool” or: “Where are my play clothes?” 😆

Next time we will talk about our projects for 2022. In the meantime, enjoy the winter and be warm for each other!

Un abrazo,

Luc and Valérie
